One of the finest portraits I have owned, this oil on canvas is the epitome of art deco clarity in composition and palette. A rare painter on the market, Arvid Fougstedt’s work does appear to be consistent in quality but none that I can find come close to this wonderful example. The subject’s delicacy of poise and relaxed demeanour is at odds with her direct, compelling gaze. Sadly her story will remain lost in time, instead her image remains as a wonderful archetype for Swedish womanhood of the interwar years.

This is great. Very refreshing style, and interesting subject. She has such poise. Good story to go along with it, too. Maybe we can create one for her.

Hi Harry, You are my first contact as I started all this tonight. So I’m glad it was a Like – particularly for my Swedish blonde friend. I think she needs a whole novel. There’s something of the Spy about her.
