A former Polish soldier and émigré, Topolski was a prolific and popular war artist during the Second War. Often in the thick of the action in operational theatres across the globe he spent as much time in Britain, especially in Blitz torn London, recording the home front. A wonderful piece of history, it depicts a queue of GIs in London in 1942, the year the first American troops arrived in Britain. The humour and humanity of the interaction between the waiting soldiers and the passing British nurse is typical of Topolski’s work.

We are lucky to have acquired a number of his wartime drawings from his family and for the second year we will be showing a small collection of work at this year’s London Art Fair in Islington. Tickets available on request from enquiries@panterandhall.com
